HULU TERENGGANU: A total of 40 foreign nationals have been sentenced to jail for violating Malaysia’s immigration laws. The group, consisting of 37 men and 3 women from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Pakistan, was brought before the Special Sessions Court in Ajil.
The cases were prosecuted by the Deputy Public Prosecutor Unit of the Immigration Department.
According to the court proceedings:

Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 — entering or staying in Malaysia without valid documents
10 individuals received jail terms of 3 to 6 months. -
Section 15(1)(c) — overstaying beyond the permitted duration
25 individuals were sentenced to 3 to 6 months’ imprisonment, with one offender also fined RM10,000. -
Section 36 — violating the conditions of a permit
Two individuals were handed 7 months’ jail. -
Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 — misuse of permit or working against permit conditions
Three individuals were sentenced to 3 months’ imprisonment and fined RM1,000 each.
All offenders will be repatriated to their home countries after serving their respective jail sentences.
The Immigration Department reiterated that nationwide enforcement will continue, stressing that illegal stay and unauthorized employment pose risks to national security and the labor market. Officials urged employers and local communities to comply with the law and report any related violations.
