Klang: Malaysian authorities have uncovered a counterfeit identity scheme involving foreign workers using fake MyKad cards to secure employment. A total of 32 individuals were arrested during an enforcement operation at a factory in Pelabuhan Klang.

The joint operation, known as Op Litar, was conducted for three hours starting at 3:00 PM by the Putrajaya National Registration Department (NRD) Investigation and Enforcement Division, with support from Selangor Immigration and JPN officers.

According to officials, the detainees include 20 women and 12 men, all aged between 21 and 41, and all believed to be Indonesian nationals.

NRD Putrajaya Deputy Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Salmi Kiprovi, said initial findings revealed that the suspects had purchased fake MyKad cards or used identity documents belonging to others to gain employment.

“They were paying between RM100 and RM500 to agents to obtain these identification documents,” she said. “The misuse of MyKad poses serious risks to national security and public trust.”

The case is being investigated under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which deals with the misuse and falsification of identification documents.

Authorities emphasized that the use of fraudulent identity papers constitutes a direct threat to national security and warned that enforcement will continue with zero tolerance. The public has been urged to report any information related to identity forgery or document abuse to relevant authorities.
