MARANG: The Terengganu Immigration Department has detained 20 foreign nationals during a targeted enforcement operation at a construction site in the outskirts of Marang. The operation, codenamed Ops Sapu, involved document inspections of 80 individuals.
Authorities confirmed that all 20 arrested individuals are from Bangladesh. They were found either residing in Malaysia without valid permits or working without proper authorization.
The arrests were made under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for illegal stay and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misuse of work permits.
All detainees have been transferred to the Ajil Immigration Depot for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The Terengganu Immigration Department emphasized that enforcement operations will continue to curb illegal employment and protect local job opportunities. Officials reiterated that employers found hiring undocumented workers will also face strict legal action.
