HULU SELANGOR: Police have arrested two women accused of impersonating representatives of a police welfare association to solicit donations from the public.
District Police Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Hussein said officers received a call at around 5:50 p.m. from a scrap metal dealer who reported that two women had approached him, claiming to represent a former police officers’ welfare group and demanded a RM1,000 donation.
Police immediately responded and arrested the suspects — aged 23 and 37 — at the scene.
During the arrest, officers seized a Perodua Myvi, six receipt books, 15 documents, nine files bearing the name of a welfare association, two silver necklaces, and RM550 in cash.
Superintendent Ibrahim confirmed that drug tests returned negative, and both suspects have no prior criminal record.
The women are being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by impersonation, and Section 3(3) of the House-to-House and Street Collections Act 1947.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of any organization before contributing donations.
