KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) conducted an enforcement operation under Ops Gegar at three massage centres in the Bukit Bintang area, resulting in the arrest of 30 foreign nationals. The operation was carried out on the night of 31 December 2025.
According to Kuala Lumpur Immigration Director Wan Mohamed Supian Wan Yusof, those detained included 11 Indonesian nationals, 16 Cambodian nationals, two Thai nationals, and one Chinese national. All detainees were taken to the Immigration office for further investigation and legal action.
Media representatives who followed the operation reported that most of the workers at the premises were from Indonesia and did not possess valid passports or work permits, despite some having lived in Malaysia for several years.
One of the detained workers, a 35-year-old woman identified as Lina, said she arrived in Malaysia in July and had been working as a massage therapist. She stated that the centre operated from 12 noon to 12 midnight, charging RM60 for a 40-minute massage session, of which she received 50 percent as her wage.
During the operation, a civil servant who was present at one of the massage centres was also questioned. He claimed that he was there solely for rest and massage services, but the immigration raid took place before the service began.
